We are happy to welcome children in private sessions. Please read our Sauna Bathing with Children guidance below carefully.

  • Children can attend private sessions only
  • 1:1 adult to child ratio for all children under 16 years of age
  • Only 1 child aged 7 or under is allowed per booking
  • When children are present, the maximum group size is restricted to 8
  • A consent form must be completed on arrival at your sauna session

Can children use the sauna?

Please do read this information carefully and adhere to the guidance if you would like to bring children with you. The sauna can be an enjoyable and comfortable experience for children, if some basic rules are kept in mind.

  • Children should never be left unattended.
  • It is imperative that a responsible adult observes how a child’s body is responding to the high temperatures and is aware of signs of discomfort such as dizziness, headaches and feeling too hot.
  • In addition, the stove is very hot and would cause severe burns if touched or fallen against.
  • As a rule, the younger the child, the more vigilant the adult needs to be!

Is it safe for my child to have a sauna?

  • Yes! However, it is important to be aware that younger children do not tolerate heat as well as adults because their thermoregulatory and circulatory systems are not as developed. For example, they do not sweat as adults do. Young children (under 5) can experience sharp increases in heart rate. This effect becomes less over the age of 7. Also changes in blood pressure during cooling between or after sauna visits, can cause children to feel dizzy or be unsteady on their feet.
  • Whilst these effects are not dangerous in healthy children, it is important to always monitor your child inside and out of the sauna and be aware of signs of discomfort. Be mindful that young children may not be able to tell you how they are feeling. Most children report that having a sauna is a very enjoyable experience.
  • We will ask you to sign a waiver form when you arrive at the sauna to confirm you have read and understand this guidance of bringing children to the sauna and that you take full responsibility for looking after them whilst on site.

Please be aware, staff have the right to end the session early if they feel the Health and Safety of the child or anyone attending the session is compromised and no refund will be offered in this case.

Booking Rules

  • Children can attend private sessions only.
  • 1:1 adult to child ratio for all children under 16 years of age.
  • Only 1 child aged 7 or under is allowed per booking.
  • When children are present, the maximum group size is restricted to 8.

Visiting Rules

  • For insurance reasons, children are not allowed to use the cold-water facilities. However, water for splashing face and body will be provided to aid cooling.
  • Children must be accompanied at all times; this applies inside and outside the sauna. The car park can be very busy at times and children could get lost on the banks of the River Dee or on the busy A5 road.
  • Children are not allowed to add water to the stove because of the risk of burning from the steam rising.
  • We ask children not to run inside the sauna.
  • The responsible adult must continually monitor their child and how their body is responding. If any signs of discomfort are observed the child and responsible adult must leave the sauna immediately.
  • Please do not bring children in the sauna who have an infection or fever.

Recommendations

  • Children should step outside, use the water provided to splash face and body to aid cooling.
  • Children should be encouraged to drink plenty of water or even juice during their session, to maintain their body’s water content.
  • During their first visit, children should limit time in the sauna to 2-5 minutes and take regular breaks. This can be increased gradually in subsequent sessions.
  • Smaller children should sit on the lower benches and where possible, away from the stove. The rocks and flue of the stove are incredibly hot and would cause severe burning if touched.
  • Children should be encouraged to wear a sauna hat to minimize the chances of overheating.

Can I bring more than 10 people to a private session?

Yes, but we recommend 10 for a comfortable fit. We can manually add extra guests (£10 pp for 60 mins and 75 mins) - just contact us with your date, time, and group size. Please note: a maximum of 10 people can be in the sauna at once, so larger groups will need to rotate.

The extra charge helps cover added water use, firewood, cleaning, and staff oversight needed for bigger groups.

What should I bring to the sauna?

Swimwear, suitable footwear (flipflops or sliders), two towels (one to sit on and one to dry yourself), a changing robe (if you have one), a bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated throughout your session… and of course, your GOOD VIBES!

Please remove any metal jewellery and ensure that your swimwear has no metal fasteners as these will get very hot and could potentially burn your skin.

Passionate about wild swimming? Please bring rubber soled booties to protect your feet on the river bedrock!

We advise to bring warm clothing to change into after your sauna especially during the colder months, and appropriate outdoor footwear.

Are there changing facilities?

We have a small communal cloakroom used for hanging towels and changing robes inside the entrance of our sauna, but we advise that you arrive dressed in your swimwear underneath your clothing ready for your session. There are several shelves for storing small items such as water bottles, wallets or mobile phones. Please note we at STōKED SAWNA take no responsibility for lost or stolen items.

We have a short 15-minute turn around between sessions so please be mindful of your changing times.

I have never used a sauna and cold plunge before, what do I do?

We’re here to guide you through your sauna experience and a member of our STōKED team will greet you on arrival.

In the sauna

Start by sitting on the lower bench for 5 – 10 minutes. Ease in gradually and listen to your body – step outside to cool down and always stay hydrated.

Cold plunge

Please shower before using the cold-water tank.

If it’s your first time in a cold-water tank, ease in slowly and focus on slow deep breaths. Stay for a few seconds to a minute. Begin with shorter sessions and gradually increase the time as your body becomes more accustomed to the cold.

Relax and repeat

Alternate between the sauna and the cold water tank a few times for maximum benefit.

Can I go wild swimming in the River Dee?

Our sauna is perched on the banks of the beautiful River Dee, and yes, you can go wild swimming. A short walk through the trees will take you to the river entry point. Immerse yourself in nature, wildlife and the stunning Dee Valley. Keep your eyes peeled for the local alpacas!

As much as we at STōKED love being free and wild, please be mindful that wild swimming in the River Dee is done at your own risk.

Can I become a member at STōKED SAWNA?

We are working hard on our booking system to provide a membership scheme which will help keep the cost of each sauna session down for those who’ll use STōKED regularly. Please be patient, good things come to those who wait!

Can I buy gift cards?

We are working hard to provide STōKED gift cards. Family and friends will be STōKED, watch this space!

Are there toilet facilities?

There are male and female toilet facilities situated in the car park.

There is also a toilet in the BLOC Café located within the TNR building.

Can I get naked in the sauna?

As much as we at STōKED SAWNA love being free and wild, our sauna is in a public place so please keep your swimwear on at all times!
